Common questions

A mnemonic does not work for me. Can I change it?

Yes. Any card can be regenerated, and you can write your own keyword and scene over the top. Free accounts have a daily regeneration allowance; Pro raises it. Custom cards are stored on your device; if you ask for an illustration, the scene text is sent to our servers and image provider to generate it (see the Privacy Policy). A mnemonic that means something to you beats a better-built one that does not.

Does Vocabild work offline?

Words you have already saved, including their cards and your study status, are stored on your device, so review works without a connection. Looking up a new word or generating a new mnemonic needs to be online.

Will my words sync to a new iPhone?

Not in the current version. Your vocabulary, study progress and custom mnemonics live on the device. Moving to a new phone means starting that local set again. Cloud sync may come later.

Your Pro subscription is tied to your Apple ID, so it follows you to a new phone — use Restore Purchases. Your saved vocabulary is not: it lives on the device. Restoring Pro on a new iPhone gives you back the subscription, not the words.

Do I need an account or email?

No. The app creates an anonymous account in the background so we can enforce generation limits and receive quality reports. We do not ask for your name or email to use the app. Details are in the Privacy Policy. Purchases are handled by Apple and tied to your Apple ID, not to your Vocabild account, so Pro works without you giving us any personal details.

Is Vocabild free?

Searching words, reading mnemonics and browsing the starter sets are free, and you can generate and regenerate mnemonics within daily limits at no cost. A free account can save up to 10 words.

Vocabild Pro is an optional auto-renewing monthly subscription. It removes the save limit and raises the daily generation and regeneration allowances. The price is shown in the app before you subscribe, and billing is handled by Apple. Full details are in the Terms of Use.

What uses up my 10 free words?

Only saving a word to your vocabulary. Searching a word, opening it, reading its mnemonic or browsing a starter set costs nothing.

Two actions save words for you:

• Add set to vocabulary saves every word in the set you don't already have.
• Study this set saves the set's words before opening Study.

On a free account, both tell you first. You'll see how many slots the action will use and can cancel. If your slots are already full, Study opens with only the words from that set you had already saved.

Starter sets are lists to browse, not free packs. Adding a word from one uses a slot like any other word.

Does deleting a word free up a slot?

No. The 10 free saves are counted once, for the lifetime of the account. Deleting a saved word removes it from your vocabulary but does not return the slot.

Pro removes the limit entirely.

How many words can I save?

A free account can save 10 words in total. Vocabild Pro removes that limit. Note that deleting a saved word does not free up a slot on a free account.

Why do some words have no picture?

A few words in the German dictionary are explicit. Those still get a full card — meaning, article, register note, example sentence and keyword — but no illustration is generated for them.

Something is wrong with a card.

Report it from the card itself. That stores a quality signal against the card (not a public profile) and helps us hide or improve bad cards for everyone. You can also email the word to support@vocabild.com.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, open Settings → Privacy → Delete my data. That removes the server-side records tied to your anonymous account and clears your saved vocabulary, study progress and custom cards from the device.

Shared mnemonic cards stay in the pool — they are stored against the word, not against you. Deleting the app also removes the local data from that device.

If you would rather email, write to support@vocabild.com and we will remove server-side data within 30 days.

Deleting your data does not cancel a Pro subscription. Manage that on your iPhone under Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

Who can use Vocabild?

Vocabild is not directed at children under 16. Do not use the app if you are under 16.

How do I manage or cancel Pro?

Pro is an auto-renewing subscription billed to your Apple ID. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

To cancel or change it, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Vocabild cannot cancel or refund a subscription on your behalf — billing is handled entirely by Apple. For refunds, use Apple's Report a Problem page.

If you have paid and Pro isn't showing, tap Restore Purchases in the app. If that doesn't work, email support@vocabild.com.
